We cover all types of traditional Building Surveying roles, and also provide architectural services over both residential and commercial property sectors.
Our particular areas of expertise include Building Surveys of property, acting as an Expert Witness, and giving Dilapidations and Party Wall advice. We act for individuals, other consultants plus local and national businesses.
For our Building Surveying services, we generally provide a local service to the North East of England, and parts of Cumbria. For commercial clients, we will travel all over the country for them at their request.

Meet the Team
Philip Smith and Adrian Marston had previously worked together at one of the region’s leading surveying practices before going their separate ways, only to be later reunited to create the current Partnership, which was established in 2005. Both are fully capable of undertaking all aspects of Building Surveying work, although their experience since originally working together has provided them with slightly different and complementary areas of expertise.
Philip, one of the two Directors, has been a Chartered Building Surveyor since 1991. Philip undertakes all kinds of Building Surveying but now specialises in acting as an Expert Witness for boundary and building disputes and legal Right of Light projects. Philip also typically acts for neighbours to developments, although not exclusively, advising them on both planning related matters, and of course, legal right to lights issues.
Adrian, one of the two Directors, has been a Chartered Building Surveyor since 1999, and fulfils many core Building Surveying roles. Adrian now specialises in ‘Neighbourly Matters’ and typically acts for developers. This involves preparing their Daylight and Sunlight reports for Planning Applications, preparing Right of Light Risk Assessments, and advising on party wall requirements, often then dealing with all party wall notices and Awards that follow.
Darryl is a Chartered Building Surveyor with a widely varied experience of commercial and residential property, meaning that he is ideally skilled to undertake a very wide range of Building Surveying and Architectural roles including surveys, design and specification of building projects, plus acting as CDM Coordinator and Party Wall Surveyor. Darryl has particular experience of architectural projects with a particular flair for this aspect of our work, producing inventive designs and being expert at finding solutions to difficult architectural design problems.
Paul is a Chartered Building Surveyor, and previously headed up the Building Surveying team at national firm LSH in their Newcastle office, before joining us in March 2017. Paul has a wealth of experience in all types of core building surveying services, and has particular interest and expertise in commercial surveying, project management, dilapidations advise and party wall knowledge.
Julie joined us in October 2015, following a career change for a former Quantity Surveyor. Julie specialises in 3D computer modelling, and, undertakes Daylight and Sunlight Assessments, and Right to Light Assessments for both commercial developers and residential home owners. Julie has kept the directors busy by organising a comprehensive program of CPD talks to architects and Local Authorities.
Frances joined us in 2016, and is our indispensable Office Manager, who keeps the whole thing running smoothly! Frances deals with all our instructions in an administrative capacity, and, will often be your first port of call when telephoning us. Frances can ensure you get put through to the person best suited to your particular requirements.
